FUME SCANS - South Korean singer PSY has been officially fined by a court for receiving prescriptions for psychotropic drugs remotely and using third parties to collect the medication.

On September 15, a judge at the Seoul Western District Court issued a summary order imposing a fine of 5 million won (approximately 65 million rupiah) on PSY.

A summary order is a written judicial procedure that imposes a fine or similar sanction without a formal open trial. A fine of the same amount was also imposed on the university hospital doctor who issued the prescriptions.

According to the investigation, PSY was accused of obtaining prescriptions for psychotropic sleeping aids—specifically Xanax and Stilnox—online without an in-person medical consultation between 2022 and 2025.

Additionally, he asked third parties, including his manager, to collect the medication on his behalf.

Under South Korean healthcare laws, Xanax and Stilnox are classified as psychotropic drugs used to treat anxiety disorders and sleep issues.

Regulations strictly prohibit the issuance of psychotropic prescriptions without an in-person consultation and forbid the collection of medication by third parties, except for legally designated representatives such as immediate family members.

The case began last May when police referred six suspects—including PSY, his manager, and the involved doctor—to the prosecution.

In July, the prosecution filed summary indictments against PSY and the doctor, while the other four individuals (including the manager and medical staff) received a suspension of prosecution.
