The project previously sparked a bidding war reportedly involving several major studios. Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon, MGM Studios, Sony, Universal, and Netflix were all rumored to have expressed interest in bringing Electronic Arts' military shooter franchise to the big screen.

Michael B. Jordan Could Lead the Battlefield Movie

Jordan's potential involvement brings a major Hollywood name to the project, both in front of and behind the camera. He would produce through his Outlier Society banner, alongside Elizabeth Raposo, Electronic Arts' Jesse Stern, Emerald Neon's Carter Swan, and Vertigo's Roy Lee and Miri Yoon.

McQuarrie's involvement could be highly significant for a military action adaptation. The director has extensive experience with large-scale action productions, including Top Gun: Maverick and several Mission: Impossible films.

However, the reported deal is not yet finalized, meaning Jordan's potential lead role and Sony's involvement could still change as negotiations progress.

This Battlefield adaptation is part of a growing trend to bring major military video game franchises to the big screen. Another major shooter series, Call of Duty, is also reportedly getting a film adaptation, with recent reports pointing to a story linked to the Modern Warfare franchise.
